Air. A. E. Scott, leaves Foxton for Wellington to-morrow'. Mrs. E. Stone and family are leaving Foxton for Wellington next week.

The fViepds of Mr. Dorset, of Russell Street, will regret to learn that he is at present confined to his home owing to a severe attack of influenza.

Mr. N. Crosswell, who has been an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital foir some time has returned home and is now 7 well on the road to recovery.

In replying to a telegraphed inquiry, Field-Marshal Sir Wm. Birdwood states that there is no foundation for the rumour that he will he the next Governor-General of Australia, reports a Delhi cable.

Afiss Adelaide C. Glriffin has been appointed matron of the Palmerston North Old People’s Tloiiie. Miss Griffin was trained in the Palmerston North Hospital, but is at present on the staff of the King George Hospital, Rotorua.

Lloyd George is now “father of the House of Commons” lie having been elected in 1890, five years after the late Air. T. P. O'Connor. One of the oldest residents of Levin died on Saturday, at the Palmerston North Hospital, in the person of Al|r. Fred. Purcell, aged 74 years. The deceased went to what is now the township about fifty years ago, and continued.- to reside at Levin until a few years ago, when he went to live at Palmerston North. He leaves, besides bis widow, five sons and two daughters. Two sons gave their lives in the Great War.
