COUNTY HIGHWAYS.
ENGINEER’S -REPORT.
At Tuesday’s meeting of the Mannwatu County Council, the county engineer (Mr. 11. V. Bond) submitted the following report on the road works in the county: — MAIN HIGHWAYS.
Maintenance metal has been spread on the western end of the Foxton-Shannon road and willows have been planted on flie upstream side of the Manawatu bridge. An old culvert lias been replaced with concrete pipes by AAlitton’s on the Himatangi-iSanson road. Portions of this road are being clayed in the sandy area where metal has ravelled badly. Bridges have been repaired and painted on the Rongo-tea-Longburn and 'Feilding-Awa-huri roads. A filling bas been made on the Tangimoana road and lias been clayed and metalled. Corners are being banked on this road and narrow places being widened out. All other highwavs have received, grading and general maintenance. The whole of (lie timber and steel from the remaining portion of the old Shannon bridge has been loaded on to trucks at 'Shannon and Foxton.
The whole of the 131 miles of reconstruction work between Foxlon and Rangiotu is now complete. The surface sealing of the bituminous paving on the Sansoii-Mt. Stewart section of No. 57 main highway is now complete. Awahon. — Maintenance metal has been spread on Nos. 1,2 and 6 lines, and Bowe’s road. General maintenance lias been carried out on Korekeri road.
