' MONTHLY MEETING.

The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough 'Council was. held last evening.

Reports were read and dealt with as follows: —

. The road foreman (Mr. A._ G. Huntley) reported as follows: — ■ During the month the staff has been engaged in repairing the breaks in the bitumen in Union St. and Avenue Road, patching ruts in . asphalt, jVfain Street ; grading footpath Harbour Street and roadway opposite Town Hall; discharging y chips, metal and sand from Railway yard; mixing asphalt in yard; spreading clay Moutoa Road and general maintena'nce work., The asphalt footpath in Harbour Street was also completed and the sti’ip of roadway in front of the Town Hall asphalted. As conditions permit asphalt is being mixed for the Cemetery footpath.—-Adopted. WATER AND DRAINAGE REPORT. ' The waterworks foreman . (Mr. W. Neville) reported as follows: — During the month four house drains were cleaned out, two water services and four meters installed, traffic' lines at Victoria Park corner painted and noxious weeds grubbed. Pumping Station: —During ■ the month 1,750,006 gallons of water' was' pumped,' the maximum current used being 33 amps. —Adopted. GENERAL. It was decided to add 10 per cent, to all rates not paid by noon on December 14th, 1020. A letter was read from the New Zealand Railway Department offering to renew~the Council’s right ’ of access through.the railway plantation to the borough rubbjsli dump for £1 per annum. —Lease renewed for another yeatr. Or. Robinson reported that the street light in Whyte Street was far from satisfactory since it was shifted and the corner was now very dangerous at niylrt, and the "Council decided to inspect the lamp during the.month. Cr. Rand reported that the roof of the Band room required attention. It was rusting badly. 'Some smothered remarks were heard around the. table as to the detrimental effect of the music on the iron work, but the Clerk was instructed to investigate the matter. It was also decided to draw the road foreman’s attention to the bad state of the road at the northern entrance to the town.
