GRASS A'NID CINDERS TRACKS RACING.
A meeting of the Executive 'Committee of the above Union was held at Foxtnn on Monday, Mr. W. A. Spragg presiding.
The chief business dealt with at the meeting was an application for affiliation from the newlv-formed ‘‘’New Zealand Speedways Association,” which has been formed for the promotion of dirt track motor e.ycle racing in New Zealand jinitli headquarters in Wellington. The Association will consist of the affiliation of Auckland Speedways, Ltd., Wlellingtoii Speedways, Ltd., Stadiums (Christchurch), Ltd., and Dunedin Speedways, Ltd., and such other companies or organisations controlling or fostering dirt track racing in New Zealand as the Association shall decide to affiliate. 'The Association will be governed by an Executive Committee composed of two delegates from the New Zealand Auto-Cycle Union and delegates from each affiliated body up to five representatives. The Executive Committee will have power to deal with all matters affecting the governing of dirt track racing, and also issue of permits to Speedways bodies. The standard size of .speedways has been fixed as follows: —410 yards in circumference, 30 feet wide in straights, and 40 feet wide on bends.
All aiders must be members of the New Zealand Auto-Cycle Union.
A Benevolent Fund will be established, all affiliated bodies paving 2A percent, of their gross takings of all meetings; this money being used to assist riders who may meet with an accident during the progress of any dirt track motor cycle trace. Injured riders will be paid at the rate of £'2 10/- for a married man and £2 for a single man per week, and hospital and
medical expense#. A comprehensive set of by-laws and regulations have been drawn ui' for the government of this class if racing. '
'flic application for affiliation was discussed at. length and it was finally decided to grant affiliation to the New Zealand Speedways Association as from the 28th October.
The chairman (Mr. AY. A. Spragg) considered that it was a fitting conclusion to a. series of Executive Committee meetings that have been held to deal with the subject of the government of dirt track racing, and that the affiliation of the Association to the New Zealand Auto-Cycle Union was in the best interests of the (riders in the Dominion, and there was no doubt that the Association would he of great assistance to the N.Z. Anio-Cvcle Union.
Messrs AY. A. Spragg (Hawcra) and F. R. Jones (Wellington) were appointed representatives on the Executive Committee to represent the New Zealand Auto-Cycle Union, and Messrs AY. A. Spragg and \. Wjav (Marlon) as trustees of ■the Benevolent Fund.
Ah’. E. A. Rodgers was appointed referee for the Wellington Stadiums, Ltd., for its forthcoming race meetings.
