VISIT OF WELLINGTON SOUTH SALVATION ARMY BAND.
On Saturday afternoon the Wellington South Salvation Army Band and band of songsters visited Foxton at the invitation of the local Captain and conducted a series of concerts and open-air programmes during 1 the week-end which did much to enliven the town over the holiday. On Saturday night after a parade from the Salvation Army Hall to Main Street where the usual. meeting was conducted, a concert was held in the Royal Theatre. Prior to the commencement. of the programme the Mayor (Mir. M. E. Pcrreau) accorded the visitors a civic welcome. The programme. included the following items: —
March, Band; 'Scripture Recitation; isolo, Mrs. Peterson; instrumental quartette; songsters, “We’re Sure of Victory;” ball swinging, L. 'Taylojr; piano trio, ‘‘Silver Trumpets;” Band selection; vocal duet, “Excelsior;” recitation, M. Elliott; songsters, “Oh 'Sing;” bass solo, J. Hay; male octette, “Wide Rivers.” and Band selection. On Sunday a serenade was conducted in Union Street at 9 a.m., holiness meeting at the Royal Theatre at 11 a.m.,in which the Band and songsters participated. The lessen/was read by Envoy Smith and a duet was contributed by two of the "visitors.
■ In the afternoon the following programme was rendered in Easton Park: —
Band selection; Ukelele solo, M. Elliott; Songsters, “Salvation Soldiers;” Cornet solo, Mr. Peterson; Monologue, “Bmikstones;” Male octette, “My Lord’s Writing All the Time;” Band selection; Bible reading, Mr. Peterson; 'Songsters, ‘“Hark the Glad Sound;” Trombone solo, K. Macaulay; Duet, “Near His Side;” 'Band selection.
.An open air meeting was conducted at 6 p.m. followed by file usual service at 7 p.m. in the Royal Theatre. The subject taken at tins service was “The (Cross.” Readings included “In The Manger” and “In 'Flie Temple;” A solo “When Jesus Was Born” was contributed by J. Elliott while another Wellington visitor contributed “Jesus Is Standing.” The band and songsters also contributed items.
After an open air meeting yesterday a picnic was held at the beach and during the afternoon the visitors were entertained to afternoon tea by Mr. and Mrs. R. Hart. Last evening a. further concert was held in the Royal Theatre, the following ‘items being contributed :
Band selection; .Scripture reading; Mate octette, “Rocked in the Cradle;” Solo, “Humourous House
Hunting,” J.G.; Songsters, “Pardoning God;” Bass solo, J. Hay; Dialogue, “Pedlars;” Baud selection; ’Scotch solo by Songster Smith; Piano solo,'N. Bray; Songsters, “My Shepherd;” Cornet solo, Mr. Peterson; Solo, Mrs. Peterson; Band .selection. At the conclusion of the concert the visitors were entertained to nipper by the local Corps and then departed for Wellington.
