LOOK TO THE TAIL LIGHT.

During the'last felw weeks tin Wellington police have been waging a war on motorists who drive with defective tail lights or no tail lights, for unless the rear number plate is properly illuminated it is impossible for the police to trace many erring motorists. The results of this campaign were made manifest. in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, when thirtyone defendants were fined for having n'o tail lights, and two others were lined for not having their rear liumber-iplates properly illuminated, although the tail lights in these eases were burning. In view of the present police activity motorists would be well advised to put their iail lights in order and see that they comply with the provisions of the Motor Regulations. 'These state that the tail light‘shall be placed in such a position that every letter and numeral on the number plate shall be plainly distinguished under normal atmospheric • conditions from a distance of at least sixty feet.
