TWO SHARKS.

WOMEN’S** CATCH AT MANLY. A GREAT STRUGGLE. After, a terrific struggle, two young Manly women captured two huge sharks at Shelly Beach the other day.. Using handlines, the women fought with the monsters, scorning all offers of assistance, even when they were dragged fully clothed into the water. Early in the day Mrs Ruhmeyer and her friend, Miss Allen, noticed the fins of the sharks protruding only a few yards from the shore. Later they walked down to the beach,-afid agaiit noticed the sharks cruising close to the shore, and ut their request Mr George Sly, a well-known local fisherman, baited a shark hook, and set a line for them.

“We waited for about half an hour before we got our first bite,” said Mrs Btthmeyer. “We were awfully excited, and didn’t notice that we were being drawn into the -water. Some men offered to assistus, hut wo refused. '

Bit by hit we got hack on to the beach again, and eventually the form of the shark, thrashing and heating the water, appeared in the shallows. At this stage some men rushed forward and clubbed the shark to death. “The second shark was a monster,” went on Mrs Btthmeyer. “We lostground as soon as it took the bait, and the next moment we were floundering in tlie water. Down we went in the water fully clothed, and although the waves were up to our necks, we didn’t let go. “I don't know how long we tugged at the line —it must have been at least a quarter of an hour —hut we won at last, and soon we were dragging the monster up the sand.” The first'shark captured was 10ft. in length, and the second 14 feet. Hours after the capture crowds flocked to Shelly Beach to obtain a glimpse of the captured monsters. Two other sharks were later seen cruising about in the vicinity of Shelly Beach.
