THE CITY OF PALMERSTON N.

PROCLAMATION EARLY IN . 1930.

At the annual re-union of the Palmerston North Fire Brigade held last week, the Mayor (Mr. A. J. Graham) made an important announcement in respect to Palmerston North attaining the status of a city. “The population of the urban area of Palmerston North is'now 20,800 odd according to the latest statistics,” he said. “As far as the town itself is concerned, I anticipate that it will reach 20,000 early in 1930. I hope in the New Year to receive a proclamation from the Governor-General declaring Palmerston North a city.”
