PARLIAMENT.
PROGRESS HAST WEEK,
The House last week made good progress with a multitude of routine matters, although in the continued absence of the Prime Minister consideration of important legislation was deferred. One Bill was passed-—the Patent, Designs, anti Trade Marks Amendment: Bill, Which brings the New Zealand law into conformity with the legislation on the subject .of the remainder of the Empire. After a late sitting the Railways Statement and Estimates were passed, the speakers' in the debate numbering thirty-seven, including the Minister of Railways. A wholesale clearance of local Bills on the Order Paper was made, eighteen measures, including- three Wellington Bills, being put through their ,final stages. Eight additional classes of the Estimates were passed; numerous reports from Select Committees and several Parliamentary papers were deall with; the Arms Amendment Bill was introduced, and the Pacific Cable Sale Authorisation Bill had its second reading.
