BOWLING

The Shannon Club opened their green on Saturday last, under favourable weather conditions. There was a good attendance of visiting bowlers including two rinks from Foxton. A very enjoyable afteraeon was^ spent, by all present. The details of the games played by Fox--On rinks are as follows:

Warwick, Howe, Robinson, Heyes (s) 27 v. Whibley (Shannon) 14. -Morgan (Shannon) 31 v. J. Reay, McGill, Walker, Woods (s) 30.

The first match of the season for the celebrated Plum and Apple Cup was played on the local green last week, when F. Robinson (challenger) beat the president (W. S. Heyes) 20 —lfi. Robinson was conceded a handicap of (i. There are already three or four challenges entered for this coveted trophy. It is understood that the present holder has removed the Cup to his own home for safekeeping, but it should' be pointed out that grave risk attends sulcli action, as the rules are so involved and capable of such wide interpretation that it is unsafe to take anything for granted until a ruling on every point has been given by at least a full Bench. To-morrow afternoon the Palmerston North, Marton and Woodville Clubs will officially open their greens.
