EARTHQUAKE RELIEF FUND.

♦ 700 CLAIMS DEALT WITH. Nelson, October 11. Three members of the Central Earthquake Relief Committee, Messrs G. A. Troup, Mayor of Wellington; J. B. Thompson, Under-Secre-tary for Lands; and Mr. Mitchell (secretary) arrived in Nelson this morning, and were present at a meeting of the Nelson Committee to-day. Air. Thompson stated, in reply to a question, that the Central ‘Committee had dealt with about 700 claims. The Nelson Institute and Library Committee applied for a grant from the Central Committee for repair to their building, which would cost about £SOO. The matter is to be held over-until all individual claims have 'been considered. Mr. Thompson stated that applications from orphanages and struggling churches had bee# similarly held over.
