SCIENTIFIC FARMING
WiELL-AIERITED tributes werepaid bj the chairman and mover of a vote of thank's to Air. F. C. Raikes, who delivered a practical and very interesting address on ‘‘bee culture” at Thursday’s lunch club. The eulogies were in the direction of indicating what can be done by an enterprising man in • bringing a comparatively small holding of secondclass land into a high state of pro duetivity by the application of scientific methods. Air.. Raikes’ farm at Oroua Downs is both an example and an object lesson in this connection. Apajrt. from his well-selec-ted dairy herd, grazing on splendid pastures, Air. Raikes is a prominent and successful poultry farmer and apiarist. It would add to the prosperity of this district if similar methods were employed by many of our settlers whose land, comparatively, is a wilderness.
