FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

+ COMMITTEE MEETING,

A committee meeting of the Foxton Horticultural Society was held in. Ros’s rooms last night, presided over by Mr. W. S. Heyes (president). Also present were Messrs D. Christie, S. H. Poole, R. Hornblow, Jas. Ross, Mesdames 'S. Easton, F. Woods, R. Hornblow, Heasman, Murphy, Misses B. Speirs, B. Gower and J. Ross and the secretary (Mr. E. J. Murphy). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Nicholas, T. Hughes, Mrs. Moore and Miss Hughes. ' THE PERPETUAL TROPHY. A discussion .ensued after the reading of the minutes on the question of the perpetual trophy. According to the minutes the trophy was to he awarded for the most points at the Summer Show. This, however, was not what the majority of those present considered in the best interests of the trophy and after u good deal of discussion Mr. D. IChristie gave notice of motion to move at the next meeting that the motion dealing with the perpetual trophy he rescinded and that the trophy be awarded for most points for both Spring and Summer Shows. GENERAL.

* Mrs. F. Woods was elected a member of the committee.

The question o : f tea rooms for the Summer Show was left in the hands of the President and Secretary with power to act.

The financial statement disclosed a credit balance of £8 8/10. Judges for the Summer Show were elected as follows: —

Section A, roses: Mr. Poole (Wellington); - sweet peas: Mr. Poole; cut bloom's: Mr. Shadier; decorative: Miss Poole (Wellington); vegetables: Mr. Shadier; pot plants: Mr. Poole; cookery: Mr. A. E. Whitehead (Palmerston N.); child’s school lunch: Plunket Nurse; cottage garden: Mr. Evans (Manakau); needlework: Mrs. Croueher (Palmerston N.); school woirk: Mrs. Croueher (Palmerston >T.) and Mr. Nicol (Oroua Downs). The following stewards were elected :

Roses: Mrs. 0. Edwards; sweet peas: Mrs. R. Hornblow; cut, blooms: Mesdames E. J. Murphy and Heasman; pot, plants: Rev. Nicholas; decorative : Mrs. G. Honore; vegetables: - Rev. Walton; cookery: Mrs. W. Trueman; needlework: Mrs. Moore; school work: Rev. W. H. Walton. Accounts amounting to £1 7/11 wore passed for payment. The President reported that the Society had not been successful in getting the Governor to open the show; they Avere now awaiting a reply from the Prime Minister in regard to the matter. It was decided that failing the Prime Minister being able to 'attend that the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. Troup) be asked to preside! over the opening.
