HEMP MARKET.

.SEPTEMBER, GRADING RETURNS. The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow, and stripper slips for the month of 'September have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: —

Thirty-six bales at Auckland, 109 at Wellington, 70 at Foxton and nine at the Bluff were rejected. The number of bales in each /grade was a,s follows, the number io|i’ the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: Good ifair 257 (186), high fair 1728 (1081), low fair 1746 (731), common 16 (232), rejected 224 (214 J, condemned nil (1), a total of 4571 bales as against 2395 graded the same period last year, an increase of 2176 bales:

The numhei' of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 855, Wellington 1971, Foxton 1330, Dunedin 34, Bluff 381. The following shows the detailed

particulars of the tow graded:

Twenty bales at Auckland, 21 at Wellington, four at Foxton were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis; .—lst grade 90 (54), 2nd grade 837 (285), 3rd grade 290 (154), condemned 45 (21), a total of 1262 bales as against 514 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 748 bales. The number of bales graded at each port was-Auckland 283, Wellington 512, Foxton 336, Bluff 131.

Stripper Tow: —Eight bales at Wellington were graded Ist grade and 63 were graded 2nd grade. A total number of 71 bales as against 90 bales graded the same period last year, showing a decrease of 19 bales.

S dripper Slips:—Thirteen bales at the Bluff were graded 2nd grade, 43 Avero graded 3rd grade, and seven bales were condemned. The total number graded was 63 bales as against 47 bales graded the sarnie period last year, an increase of 16 bales.
