BOWLING

OPENING OF FOXTON GREEN TO-MORROW.

Given suitable weather conditions, the official opening of the Foxton BoAvling Club’s green, to take place at 2 p.m. to-morrow, should be a (very successful function. Mr. W. S. Heves, president, will Avelcome visitm - .s and -formally declare the green open for play. The green just now appears to be in splendid playing order, and the Avhole of the grounds present a very neat and Avell-kept -appearance,. Avhicli is chiefly due to the Avork of a minority of .members Avho have the interests of the -Club at heart.

It is anticipated a good number of visiting howlers Avill he present from Clubs in all parts of the centre, and 'given fine Aveather there is no doubt a good afternoon’s spoii’t Avill be experienced.

The general public are -also invited to be present. The ladies’ croquet courts will be opened in conjunction with the -bowling green, and arrangements have been made by the ladies committee to hold competitions during the afternoon.

Bowlers are reminded to bring a basket to -assist with the catering arrangements.

The prospects for the coming boAvling season appear very bright, as in addition to a. considerable increase in the membership this year, stimulation of interest in iClub play Avill coipe -about through the generous donation by MJr. J. M. Thomson of a couple of suitable trophies for a pairs competition. The exact conditions have, not yet been laid down, but the trophies are to be Avon outright this' season.

'On Saturday afternoon last the Otaki BoAvling Club opened their green. One link from Foxton made, the trip, and repofrt having had a very pleasant time. In their game against Noble’s rink the play was very even,, the scores being 18 all on the twentieth head. Otaki, however, gained the decision on an extra end by one ponit. The local rink Avas: J. NeAvth, Jas. Ross, John Ross, Heyes'(s).
