Airs. I. Corn returned to Foxton on Friday from Napier.

Mrs. G. F. Smith 'returned to Foxton last week after spending a holiday in the North. 'The friend's of Mrs. D. -Christie will regret to lealrn that she is confined to bed with a severe attack of influenza.

Mr. C. G. Wilson, who has been relieving on the local (railway clerical staff, has been replaced by E. W. Selwood, of [Blenheim, who will replace Air. Wad\vorth. Dr. G. A. Forrest, of!Palmerston North, is reported to be very seriously ill, suffering from blotid poisoning. He was formerly medical superintendent at the Palmerston Hospital. Aliss Allen, a tealrher of the local District High -School, while closing a window at the school yesterday received a painful cut in the hand which required medical attention.

Mrs. H. R. ‘Smith, of Christchurch, is at present spending a. holiday with her neice, Airs. E. R. Booth, of Johnston Street. Airs. Smith only just recently returned from a holiday visit to Norfolk Islands. •• Aliss J. AI. Coombe and Aliss E. B. ’Mills have been appointed relieving teachers at the local District High School pending the appointment of a successor to Air. Chipper and during the absence on sick leave of Aliss AEountfort. Sir Robert Stout attained Iris eighty-sixth birthday on Saturday, and, • the Legislative Council being in session at the time, the Leader (Hon. T. K. . The death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday night after a short illness of James Roland, eldest son of . Air. and Airs. J. Walker, of Russell St., aged six years and eight months. The little chap was stricken down with meningitis a little over a, week ago and after admission his condition rapidly became worse and he passed away at a late hour on Saturday night. 'The funeral took place at Foxton yesterday.
