BOWLING.

A meeting of committee of the Foxton Bowling Club was held at (lie residence of Mji". W S. Heyes (president) on Thursday evening. limitations were received from the following clubs to attend the ollieinl openings on the respective dates:—Northern Club, Wednesday,. 9th October; Levin Club, Wednesday, 9th October; Shannon Club, Saturday, 12th October. - Terrace End Club intimated that they would be sending one rink to the official opening of Foxton green oir October 2nd. The Foxton Tennis -Club wrote, thanking the Bowling 'Club for the use of the pavilion during the past season. The delegate to the Centre (Mr. D. Christie) reported in detail the business transacted at the recent Centre meeting. The Club’s remit proposing that the New Year Centre tournament be a pairs tournament found considerable favour among delegates, and was carried, it being agreed that the nomination fee he the same as for rinks, viz. 12/6.

The official opening of the local green being set for Wednesday, October 2nd, the Committee desire that a well attended working bee be held on the green on Wednesday next, for the purpose of putting the green in order, and making gcneial preparations for the function. The attendance ’of members will be appreciated. (Bowlers are reminded that it will •be necessary to take a basket on opening day to assist with the catering arrangements. During the winter recess considerable work ilias been done on the green by a small band of workers, who have made alterations and improvements to the banks, lowering same in certain places and also providing a system of steps at the pavilion end for the convenience of players walking on to the gieen. Other important work such as top dressing and levelling has been undertaken, and it is anticipated the green will be playing well this year. All that remains now to make the opening a success is propitious weather and a sufficiently laigc .working bee on Wednesday next to put the playing surface in fine order.
