Collecting ihf' designs of coalshoot covers is the unusual hobby of a Norfolk doctor. He has found and copied more than 150 different designs in London. At last night’s Borough Council meeting _ the poundkeeper (Mr. W. Neville) 'reported that during the month six head of stock was impounded and driving fees to the amount of five shillings collected. That the Foxton Beautifying Society was doing good work was the collective opinion of Councillors at last night’s Borough Council meeting. A sensational affair is being investigated by the Palmerston N. police. The Mayor (Mr. M. E. PevreaWf could not refrain from ‘commenting at last night’s Borough Council meeting on the fact that although the Council had with one exception been unanimous at its previous meeting that the whole Council constitute the Works Committee, a
meeting of that committee held recently had by no means been fully attended. Ci\ Barron, the mover of innovation, protested that the attendance was quite good and that sickness had precluded several councillors from attending. “Funny how tastes change in pipe tobaccos,” said an Auckland tobacconist to -a pressman the other day. “Formerly the 'demand was all for the imported, but now it’s the New Zealand tobaccos grown and manufactured by the National Tobacco Company (the pioneers* I believe, of the N.Z. tobacco industry) that are all the rage. They certainly are the goods. I fancy its the toasting o-f the leaf that accounts mostly for their flavour and aroma. I believe it’s the only toasted tobacco on the market. Several doctors amongst my customers will smoke nothing olse. They say there’s so little nicotine in these brands they are far the safest to smoke. Well, it must be admitted the foreign brands often contain a dangerous amount of nicotine. /Oil, yes there ares everal brands of National. Perhaps I sell more “Navy Cut No. 3” than anything else, but “Cut Plug No.' 10” (full flavour) runs it pi’etty close. Then there’s “Riverhead Gold” (a mild aromatic), and “Cavendish” (medium). They’re all good because they are toasted. —Advt. 33,
