WAGHORN AND ATICHBRLEY ESTABLISH WORLD'S RECORDS.

The international seaplane competition for the Schneider Trophy was won for Britain by Flying Officer Waghorn with an average speed of 328.63 miles an hour, Warrant Officer Dal Alolin (Italy) being placed second, and ' FlightLieutenant D’Arcy Greig (Britain) third. Flying Officer Atcherley (Britain) made the second fastest time for the course, with an ayerage speed of 325.54 miles an hour, hut was disqualified for not rounding a pylon properly, On the. fourth lap Atcherley attained a speed equal to |360 miles an hour. The other two Italian competitors were forced down.
At least a quarter of a million people witnessed the Schneider Trophy contest. A gentle southeasterly breeze was blowing’ just sufficiently strong to ruffle the surface of the water and prevent the airmen’s bete noir, a glassy sea. Alany thousands of people occupied the beaches and coigns of vantage' throughout the pight. High price® were paid fog seats at the Ryde pier-head, while .building's facing the sea reaped a harvest for stands on the roofs.
