OUTSTANDING RATES.
MAYOR ISSUES A WARNING
Lo.cal-‘residents 'whose rates are long overdue will soon have to explain to the Magistrate the reason for their failure to meet their obligations to the borough if the Council decides to take the steps indicated by the Mayor (Mr. M. E. Perreau) at last night’s meeting. The Mayor stated, that it had been said that the ICouneil. had been asleep and that this and that hadn’t been done. If the Council was going to spend money then it must have money to spend and the time was not far distant when the 'Council would, be compelled to take some drastic steps to collect its outstanding rates. Those'who paid their rates had to pay for those who did not as the money had to he found and the rates were increasing yearly. In his opinion the Council would have .to instinct its solicitor to demand payment for all overdue rates at an very early date.
