Mr. Renton, who is well known locally, having resided at Himatangi ior many years, was engaged in trucking horses at Rangiotn yesterday. About 10 o’clock lie was riding a horse and leading another towards the station and when near Mr. Roa Larkins’ gate,-a car driven by Mr. O’Reilly, of Terrace End, Palmerston North, approached, and the young horse, taking fright reared back on to Mr. Renton’s mount, causing the other animal to he jambed against the front of the car. O’Reilly removed cushions from the ’bus on which they placed Mr. Renton and Mr. Richardson set about making some splints from fencing timber while his wife tore up some of her garments to bind up Mr. Renton’s injuries. Shortly after Mr. W. E. Barber arrived on the scene, accompanied by his. daughter, Nurse M. Barber, who was able to assist in rendering first aid. A number of settlers also arrived on the scene and rendered what assistance they could. On the arrival of the ambulance Mr. Renton was conveyed to a private hospital in Palmerston N., being accompanied by Nurse Barber.
