DRUNK IN CHARGE OF MOTOR CAR.
FINE OF £5 IMPOSED,
At the local Police Station yesterday morning, before Mr. J. K.
Hornblow, J.P., Clarence Wilfred Coley was charged that on August 3ist, lie was found drunk while in charge of a motor car in Cook Street.
Accused who had been released on bail did not appear. In evidence Constable Owen stated that in company with Constable Bell at 10.40 pan. on Saturday he saw a motor car in Cook Street about which were some men. On making investigations he discovered defendant sitting at the wheel of the car asleep. He was moved over and the car driven to the Police Station, -but he was in a hopeless state of intoxication and did not even wake up. He was released on bail the following morning in a surety of £25, a quarter of the penalty to which he was liable. This was defendant’s first offence. He did not have a driver’s license. Accused was convicted and fined £5, in default seven days’ imprisonment.
