GOLF.

On Saturday afternoon, the Herrington Golf Club visited Shannon and won their first match against that Club on the Shannon links. The course was in good order though on the heavy side and a marked improvement was noticed on the greens. Foxton won by 94 points to til. The results were as follows, Foxton being mentioned first: — Bergin defeated Jones, Newton defeated King, Newton (senr.) lost to Robinson, iPerrean lost to Peterson, Ogilvy lost to Blackwood, Walton (iefeated Cvonqucst, Hcwett defeated Tregurthn, Trueman lost to Stevenson, Ross lost to H. Stern, Mrs. Walton defeated Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Newton defeated Mrs. Moynihan, Mrs. Moore defeated Mrs. Cronquest, Mrs. Stanley defeated Miss Stern, Miss Robinson lost to Miss G. Goodwin, Mrs. Easton defeated Mrs. IT. Easton, Miss Bowe halved with Miss Jones.

At the conclusion of play, afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the Shannon Club. Jones, captain of the Shannon Golf Club, thanked the members of the Foxton Club and congratulated them on their win. Mr. Bergin, president of the Foxton Club, replied stating it was its first win and that it had thoroughly enjoyed the game.
