MANAWATU RABBIT BOARD
At Thursday’s meeting of the Manawatu Rabbit Board it was decided to withdraw a fiurtlier £SO from the Post Office Savings Bank. The secretary reported that the rates were coming in fairly well and that there were not many outstanding. The ten per cent, penalty would conic into operation in October.
The audited balance-sheets for the past two years were perused by members ancl the secretary congratulated on the fact that the bal-ance-sheets had been received back from the Audit Department minus tags. CLEANING THE DISTRICT. The Inspector referred to the fact that he was experiencing a little difficulty with one or two property owners in exterminating the existing rabbits. These properties were not bad enough to have their owners hailed before the court and no notice was taken of notices sent. Trustee W. E. Barber said that the time had arrived when the Board would have to put the “screw”on these people. The district was now in a good state but if the few rabbits left were allowed to remain alive the district would soon be in a bad state again. Trustee McKelvie said that the Board was empowered to have the work carried out to charge the owners with the cost of same.
The chairman: Yes, but it might cause a lot of ill feeling and bother before the work was done. The property owners would have to he summoned. The Board took a serious view of the matter, and the inspector was instructed to keep a good watch over the property owners concerned.
