BOOKMAKERS FINED.
Gisborne, August 19. The Magiisti'ate’s Court was crowded to capacity this morning when four well-known citizens appeared on charges of breaches of the Gaming Act. Arthur Owen was charged with using his premises in Hallenstein’s Buildings as a common gaming house. Rutene Takina, Cornelius Patterson, and Samuel Bardwell were charged with frequenting the street for the purpose of betting. Owen, who pleaded guilty, was fined £IOO and costs. Takina was fined £25. The informations against Bardwell and Patterson were dismissed.
