SERVED HIS FELLOWS IN CASH AND KIND.
TRIBUTE TO: LATE SIR JAMES G. WILSON.
A special tribute to the services given to the Palmerston North hospital by the late Sir J. G. Wilson was paid by Mr. J. K. Hornblow at yesterday's meeting of the board /during a discussion on the question ot granting an honorarium to the present chairman (Mr. Hornblow). “For over a quarter of a century,’’ he said, “Sir James earned out his duties without fee or reward. His travelling expenses were also refunded to the board. Had he received an honorarium to which he was entitled, plus his expenses, the amount would have totalled 'between £3OOO and £4OOO. Add to this his generous and periodical donations, we find that this institution and the State have benefited to the extent of over £SOOO, to say nothing of his personal services. “This record, in any opinion, stands pre-eminent in connection with hospital bequests in the Dominion. He gave in cash and service during his life.” —Times.
