LOCAL YOUTH’S NARROW ESCAPE.

WHEN CAR LEAVES ROAD. A local youth, Jack Ctower, had a narrow escape from serious injury at an early 'hour yesterday morning, when the car he was driving failed to negotiate a bend in the road in front of Mr. New til’s property, at Moutoa, and after ploughing through about ten yards of mud and slush, crashed into a clay bank and finally ended up in a bog-'hole, chassis deep in water. Both head lights were damaged and one front dumb iron and the front axle badly bent .while the steering gear was smashed bv the force of the impact. One of the rear tyres was found to be flat and this may have made . the ear difficult to handle when negotiating the bend. The scene of the accident was in front of the artesian bore, on Mr. Newth’s property. Mi’. Gower was unaccompanied at the time of the mishap. He had just taken Messrs M. E. Perreau and S. Mattar into Foxton and was returning to the dance when the accident occurred. The ear was brought into Foxton on a lorry yesterday,
