In the Noad 'Shield competition, as iresults indicate, in the majority of cases teams were fairly evenly matched, the Shannon-IConvent game being the most spectacular in the first, round. In the second round the Levin-Ohau match proved to be very exciting while in the .semi-final Levin had by no means the better of the game as a whole, both teams fighting hard from start to finish.
The final was perhaps one of the best seven-a-side games •witnessed in the district since the presentation of the shield and as such certainly thrilled all spectators and left Shannon worthy victors.
At the close of the day Mr. Foss in presenting the Noad Shield to Mason (captain for Shannon), expressed his appreciation of the fact that on each of the three occasions when the shield has been competed for it has been won by three different schools —Foxton, Levin and Shannon. He further hoped, that while Shannon would endeavour to (retain it, it would continue to go round in future contests. Mi*. Morgan applied on behalf of Shannon. In presenting the Austin Banner to jN. Walls (captain for Foxtoni, Mr. Foss congratulated Foxton on again coming to the forefront. On behalf of Foxton, Mr. Procter thanked the previous speaker for the kind things he had said about the Foxton boys and paid a compliment to Ohau upon the fine standard of football that had been /reached in that school which by results bad placed it a runner-up, a position which previously had been filled by much larger schools. The day was concluded with cheers for the losers and the basket ball teams, in particular Ohau, the winners.
