HOROWHENUA THIRD GRADE REPS. (DEFEAT BUSH.
The Horovvhenua Third grade reps, defeated the Bush reps, on the Levin Domain on Wednesday by 16 points to 5. The home team (red and blue) was as follows: —‘Full-back; Mnbey; three-quarters: G. Hirini (Fx.), Store, G. Young; ln reeighths: J. Young, Higgs; half: Coley (Fx.); forwards: GalloAvay (wing), Bennett, Denton, Bignall, Bateman, Matthews ('Fx.), Hoffman (Fx.), Richards. The game provided an attractive display. The tackling of the Horowhenua fonvards was much superior to that of their, faster opponents. Nice handling took the home team into the visitors 25 where'Hirini was unsuccessful with a shot at goal. Bush, hoAvever, drew first blood with a converted try. Hoi'owhemia were spurred on to further efforts by their opponents score and within a short Avhile evened the tally when Young scored and Store converted. Hirini was unlucky shortly after when the ball Avas sent out to him but lie Avas pushed into touch near the line. Store again sent the 'ball to Hirini but he Avent down to a tackle AA T hen almost across. After Bush (relieved by forcing Horowhenua back to the attack and -a third time Hirini narroAvly missed scoring, being brought down alongside the line 'before he could ground the ball. Bignall, hoAvever, slcooped the ball up and scored HoroAA’henua’s second try. (Store converted. Hirini again made a ibid for the line and put in a fine solo run to be cheated from success almost on the line. The Horowhenua backs Avere iioav passing Ave-11 and from one of -these transfers Hirini obtained possession and scored practically on his oAvn, well out. Store took the kick, but did not increase the points. -Half time sounded shortly afterwards with the scores: Horowhenua. 13— Bush -5. On the resumption of play, Jack Young and Hirini were prominent in a passing; rush whi'eh caused play to be taken well up towards the blacks’ corner. C-oley took a pass and miade a dash for the 'Rue, but was pushed out. (Bush were penned up for a tune, till their forAvairds managed to work the ball out -and folloAv it to midfield. It was not long, lioAveA r er, before GalloAvay added a further 3 points to Ho row-henna’s score. Store missed Avith the kick. The visitor’s -line was continually threatened and sm-alrt Avork 'by the Bush full-back (Bentley), saved them time and again. -Several sorties were made by the visitors into the Horowhenua territory but without result.
