CHRISTIAN EXAMPLE OF GOVERNOR-GENERAL.
NELSON SYNOD’S APPRECIATION. Nelson, August 4. The Nelson Diocesan Synod enthusiastically carried a motion expressing deep thankfulness to Almighty God that a gentleman who has shown the highest principles of life has lived among us as Go-vernor-General and begs to convey to is Excellency, Sir Charles Fergusson and to Lady Alice Fergusson, its sincere appreciation of the splendid example maintained by them during their stay in New Zealand.
In supporting the motion, the president, said he was not likely to forget the remarkable address his Excellency had delivered upon the occasion of laying of the foundation stone of Nelson Cathedral. It was one of the finest utterances the president had ever heard in his life from a man in jthe Governor’s position. The Governor-General was an elder of the Ptresbyterian Church at his home in Scotland and a confirmed member of the Church of England, where he had shown himself to be a devoted, loyal and faithful member. Wlhilst he was staying at Government House, family prayers were taken by his Excellency, when he committed New Zealand and his own household to the care of the Almighty for that day. Would that his example be followed by all his people.
