FOXTON RACING CLUB.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting' of the Foxton Racing 'Chill) was held in the Racing Club’s office last evening, presided over by Mr. W. E; Barber (President). There was an attendance of 44 (members. The President 'welcomed members and said lie was pleased to see such a large attendance. MOTIONS OF SYMPATHY.
Motions of sympathy were passed to the relatives of the late Messrs A. W|ilton, J. V. Robinson, W. Epairama, and G. Hopkins. The 'President made special reference to the demise of Mr. J. V. Robinson, who, he said, had been an enthusiastic steward and also referred to the passing of Mr. Epairama who had been connected with the (Club as long as the President. He also thought that at one time the late Mr. Epairama trained horses locally. ANNUAL REPORT'. The annual report was read (as previously published). In moving its adoption the President said (that in common ivith most other country Clubs in the Dominion, had had to deal with the problem of insufficient funds with which to carry on: The Club was peirhaps, a little better off in this respect than many other Club's and this Mr. Barber attributed to the change in racing dates. The course was in good olt’der and possibly better to-day than it had been for years. During the year the Trustees had donated the Club £45 for improvements to the course and this money had been expended on sanding, soiling and general track improvements. More work in this connection would, no doubt, be carried out towards the end of the
season. (Mir. W. T. Jewell endorsed the President’s remarks and said the Club had experienced a very good year. It was a change to see the balance-sheet present, a credit balance this year in place of the usual deficit that had been recorded since 1916. Mr. Jewell referred to the fact that recently the Minister for Internal Affairs (Hon. de la Perelle) had visited Foxton and been conducted over the course.
He was favourably imjpressed with the Club’s property and took away with him a satisfactory opinion of the conduct of the racing affairs of Foxton by the local Club. Opportunity had been taken to place before the Minister the cprestion of the necessity for the Government granting increased totalisator rebates and abolishing the taxation on members subscriptions. The Minister, who occupies the position as steward to a country club, was very sympathetic to the Club’s requests, hut Mr. Jewell was not very sanguine as to the Government’s compliance .with the requests in view of the state of affairs as outlined in the budget presented ito the House by the Minister of Finance yesterday.
Mr. M. E. Perreau seconded the (motion and in doing so congratulated the stewards on the Club’s state of affairs. The report was then adopted. (THE BALANCE-SHEET. The balance-sheet was subjected to a good deal of criticism by Mr. J. (Burr. Mr. Burr Jritieised the Club’s operations to as far back as 1927, and considered the Club cost too much to run. The President analysed the bal-ance-sheet, and gave all details to tho meeting, ’ explaining rises and falls in revenue. The balance-sheet was then adopted. ELECTION OP OFFICERS. Robinson; stewards: Messrs M. B. Bergin, S. Jackson, P. A. Lingajrd, J. Purcell, and W. Kirkland; auditor: Mr. A. leaser.
UNCLAIMED TOTALFSATOR DIVIDENDS. Mr. Massey ('Taikoaea) was of opinion that (the Club should consider the question of handling unclaimed totalisator dividends.
