AUSTIN BANNER AND EASTON UUP COMPETITION. FOXTON v. LEVIN. This morning theffoical team travelled to Levin to try conclusions with that team. The game, was played on the Weraroa ground and Air. Connor held the whistle. Foxton won the toss and kicked off on a. heavy ground against a heavier team. The Levin forwards kept the hall in close play and after ten minutes succeeded in earvying the play into the local team’s twenty-five, where from a line out the ball was given -to Ivingspear who, succeeded in scoring—the kick failed. Levin 3 —Foxton 0.
From t lile kick- off Fox t on made ground tand t-he local forwards packed well, but tire situation was returned by Kingapear Who made an excellent line kick. Again the opposing forwards approached to the local line, where Bills saved the situation by finding the line. Foxton now put forth further efforts and carried the play into their opponent’s twentv-flve. A free kick from the side line failed and Levin forced. For the remainder of the hajf Levin kept the play down field and pressed the local team. Coley intercepted a pass but was unfortunate in not scoring. The second .half, saw post of the play in the Levin half. The local team did everything but score. Malcarthy was unlucky whop he dived a foot short of the line as also Croon when the opposing team had to force. Only twice during this spell did Levin take the offensive, When time was called it found thie local boys still hammering at their opponent’s line. The defensive play exhibited by the Levin team was a credit to its coaches. At the morning tea held in the Levin school Mr. MacDonald, who is now leajving the district after being secretary to the Primary Schools’ fUnion for some years past, paid a compliment to Foxton in stating that the Foxton school had dope much to raise the standard of school football in the district, and he hoped that that standard would still further improve. On behalf of Foxton Mr. Procter replied that such 'a, standard as
had been attained was certainly due also to the interest which Levin had taken and also to Mr. MacDonald, who had been untiring in his onerous duties as secretary. The reception closed with an exchange of Cheers between the teams and expression of gratitude to Mr. MacDonald and to those who were responsible for the morning tea. RESULT. The Oban fleam which was two points behind Foxton played a drawn game against Shannon at Shannon this morning. The competition thus closes with honours to Foxton who age one point ahead.
