CARS SKID ON RANGITIKEI BRIDGE.
Mr. R. Cochrane, of ‘Fox-ton, had nn unenviable experience while motoring to his mill at Bulls one day last week. He was accompanied by Messrs Westwood and Royal and was driving his cair over the Bulls Bridge when the vehicle suddenly skidded round and tipped on its side after crashing into the railing of Hie bridge. Mr. Cochrane informed our representative that he was travelling very slowly at the time having pulled up at the approach to allow another car to cross thle bridge, and ‘he had proceeded a short distance only when the 'accident happened. Fortunately no one was injured and the car was not hadlv damaged and was able to proceed on its journey once it was righted. “If I had been travelling at any speed,” said Mir. Cochrane, “it is more than likely that, the ear would have crashed through the railings and plunged into the riverbed below.” Mr. Cochrane stated that anotheti* car, one of the “baby” variety, also skidded on the bridge the same morning and turned completely round while a. motor bike also slewed round and crashed into the railing. The accidents welre due to ithe fact that the decking had become very slippery owing to rain and it was almost impossible to keep control of a. car while negotiating the bridge. The above should 'act as a warnto motorists crossing the Bulls Bridge during wet. weather.
