Miss R.. Dommett, of Palmier - ston North, is at present spending a short holiday in Foxton, as the guest of Miss Iv. Ilornblow.
The engagement is announced of Vera, youngest daughter of the late Air. and Mrs. Mervyn Littlejohn (late of Foxton) to Edward Allan, eldest son of Mir. and Mi's. O. E. Standen, of Wellington. The friends of Air. C. Spring will regret to learn that he, has taken a serious turn and that his condition is causing some anxiety. Air. Spring is still at his daughter’s home in Wanganui.
The funeral of the late Mr. Cfeotrge Hopkins, who passed away at Mianawatu Heads on Sunday, took plaice at Foxton on Tuesday. Rev. \\ r . ILFicholas conducted services at the residence and gra/veside. The pall-hearers were Messrs \\> Woodliam, John Ross, A. Als op, H. Hartley, A. H. Wilson and T. Taylor (Huuteirville). A pleasant social function took plaice- at Moutoa on Tuesday eveningl when a party of Marotiri and Moutoa settlers paid a surprise visit to Mr. aud Mrs. If. Prior, who at the end of the month are leaving- Moutoa. after seventeen years’ residence, to live at Oroua Downs. A unost enjoyable time was spent, by all and during 1 the evening Mr. J. Tamplin, on behalf of the settlers, called on Mr. and Mrs. Prior to accept a handsome eiderdown quilt as a slight token of the esteem in which they were held throughout the district. Mr. Tamplin voiced the regret of the Moutoa and Marotiri residents that they should soon bo losing Mr. and Mrs. Prior from the district after so many years of pleasant association and extended to them every good wish for their future happiness. Mir. Prior suitably replied and thanked those present for the gift and expressions of goodwill. The evening terminated with the singing 1 of “Auld Lang Syne” and “For They are Jelly Good Fellows.”
