NEW ANAESTHETIC.
REMARKABLE FEATURES. Vancouver, July 19. A medical discovery of importance to the whole world is reported to have been made. This is an anaesthetic which is said to become effective within 50 seconds. It is claimed that it can be given to persons with very weak hearts. The anaesthetic has 'been tested at. Vancouver, and although secrecy is being maintained it is learned that it is being manufactured by the Eastern United States Medical Company and that quantities have been released throughout the Continent. 'The) results are to be tabulated (before an announcement is made. Tire most gratifying feature of the new anaesthetic —known as sodium amytai —us that the patient is said to remain in a. “twilight sleep” for a period of 36 hours, but can 'be awakened at any time by the administration of an antidote. There is said to be no retching or otheir after-effects as with other anaesthetics.
