DROWNING AT PALMERSTON NORTH.
An unfortunate drowning fatality occurred in the iManawatu river at Palimiorston North yesterday, when Mr. Ronald Drummond, a married man with three children, lost bis life. Deceased and a mate, Mr. Walter Hosking, had been across the liver in a boat to attend ito hawsers swinging across the river and us<kl to haul a bucket for glravel to and fro. Drummond, lit. is stated, reached up to catch hold of one of the ropes and in doing so, upset the boat. Both mien fell into the water hiit managed to grasp .the swinging cable. Hosking found lie could touch bottom walked out, hut Drutamftnd, being a. good swimmer, set out after the boat, Which was being carried, downstream by the current. He was kept in sight for 150 yards, but that was the last seen of him. The body has not been recovered.
