FOXTON BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. There Avas a good attendance of members present at the. annual meeting of the iFoxton Bowling Clulb, held in Ross’s Rooms on Thursday evening and, if enthusiasm goes for anything, the iClub should experience a \ r ery successful season this year. There were present Messrs W. |W. >S. Heyes (President), F. Woods, W. Howe, J. M. Thomson, Jas. Ross, A. Stevenson, J. Newth, W. H. Walton, H. Hamer, M. H. Walker, D. Christie, W. Nye, F. Robinson, John Ross, R, Bryant and the secretary (Mr. R. Warwick). REPORT AND BALANCESHEET. The President’s report (preyiously published) and balance-sheet were read and adopted. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the President said the Club could flatter itself on the progress made last season. In addition to the ttrophies annexed (mentioned in the report) the local team 'had competed for the Dixon Cup Avhich they lost by three points only. It Avas pleasing to note 'the credit balance in connection with the afternoon tea fund. On the Avhole, the balance-sheet disclosed a very satisfactory state of affairs. There had been no undue expenditure incurred during the past year and in all cases the Club had obtained good A’alue for its money. If the incoming committee guarded the '/finances of the Club with the same strict caution as the out-going committee had then a “clean sheet” at the end of the next financial yeafr would be assured with regard to the outstanding accounts.

Mr. D. Christie congratulated the out-going committee on the honest, attempt it had made to bring the Chib from a state of almost bankruptcy to a. good position financially. In addition to looking to the finances the green had ibeen .better last year than it ever had been before and at the present time was looking particularly well. He anticipated that the green would be even better this season than last. Wolrking ‘‘bees” had carried out a good deal of Avork last season but enthusiasm in this respect had become luke-Avarm after a while with the result that the work had been left to one or twe to do. Mr, Christie, hoAvever, paid a tribute to the wotjk done on. the green by Messrs A. Stevenson and J. NeAvth, who had been responsible for most of the Avork themselves. They had given their time Avillingly and generously carried out the work and the Club Avas undoubtedly indebted to them for the very fine condition of the green to-day. The socialability Avhich had existed on the green last year had been very pleasing and young member's had been given much encouragement and obtained a good deal of play Avith the result that some of the younger players had been advanced to skips before the season was very far advanced. The younger members should be encouraged in this manlier again this season which he anticipated would be one of the best since the Club’s inauguration. Mr. Fred. Robinson endorsed Mr. Christie’s remarks and said as a young plaver, he had appreciated the encouragement meted out to the new members by the “old hands” last season. The younger players had been Avell satisfied Avith their treatment as everything possible had been done to assist them. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

The election of officers was then proceeded with. Mr. M. H. Walker moved that Mr. Heyes be re-elected President and in doing so said that it had been the past experience of the Club that when a President accepted office for two years running only the best of iresuits obtained. Mi*. Heyes now had a thorough grip of the Club’s affairs and he thought it would be in the best interests of the Club that he should accept office for a further term. Mr. H. Harnea* seconded the motion. Mr. F. Woods nominated Mi*. John Ross for the position and in doing so said -that Mi*. Ross had occupied the position as vice-pre-sident for many years and should accept office as President. Mi*. Ross, however declined to accept nomination as he was unable to devote the time necessary to the position. He congratulated Mr. Heyes on his conduct of the Club affairs and said that it was mainly through hia generosity with his ear that the local -teams had been able to compete with such success in the various tournaments.

Mr. Heyes was unanimously reelected to the position as President and thanked members for the honour bestowed on him. He promised to do all in his power in the interests of the Clulb. Other officers were elected as follows: — Vice-president: Mr. J. M. Thomson; secretary: Mr. R. Warwick (re-elected); committee: Messrs Wjallkier, F. Robinson, J. Newth, John Ross, W. Nye; Saturday committee: Messrs W. Howe, A. Stevenson and F. Woods; green superintendent: Mi*. Jas. Newth; delegate to Centre: Mjr. D. Christie; selector: jMk*. J. M. Thomson; auditor: Mr. E. Wl Huntley. It was decided to hold over the appointment of ta cartetaikeir, the President paying a tribute to the work of Air. W. Nye in that capacity last season. NEW. MEMBERS. Messrs E. \\\ Huntley, G. H. Hinds, J. iW. Reay, S. G. Maclde, J. A. Aitchison, I. R. Reay, S. H. Poole, and E. Jackson were elected new members.

Messrs J. K. Hornblmv and H. E. Garbett were elected honorary meimbers. PLUNKET ROOM SITE. A letter was received from the Plunket- Society asking the. Club’s permission to erect the new Plunket Room on portion of the Club’s section. The matter was freely discussed and no objection was raised to the request provided there was sufficient room available. It ivas decided to refer the matter to the committee and to ask the 'Society to submit plans and specifications of the proposed building. GENERAL. The resignation of Mr . G. F. Smith as auditor was accepted. It Avas decided to request members to contribute 1/- each towards the Dominion appeal to bowlers for subscriptions for the earthquake fund.
