HIGH SCHOOL SOCIAL EVENING.
Last evening the pupils of Foxton District High School Secondary Department entertained parents and ex-pupils at a social in the Masonic Hall. An entertaining and varied programme was provided, consisting of games, musical items land dancing. Songs were rendered by Mrs. Doel, Miss Mount - fort and Miss M. Martin, and a pianoforte duet was played by Miss Meta Mason and Margaret Barron. Music for dancing was provided by Alias K. Martin. The competition prize-winners were Miss Noelene Brown, Miss Jessie Crowe, Mr. Warwick and J. Irons.
After slipper the headmaster, Mr. P. A. Mason, welcomed the parents and ex-pupils. Addressing the parents Mr. Mason touched on the value of such a social function in providing a common ground on which parents, teachers and pupils could meet. He hoped, he said, that in the future other .functions would be held, to increase the opportunities of.parents to interest themselves in this valuable social work. Mr. Mason pointed out how parents could assist in overcoming many pressing needs which at present beset I lie school. In certain financial schemes he hoped for their co-op-eration, for, as he .pointed out, Thuds are urgently required for the provision of typewriters, pictures and the augmenting of the Secondary Department library. The time is ripe, Mr. Mason remarked, for a definite effort which may take the form of a concert, bazaar or shopday, and he made it clear to the parents that money raised in this wav, and so utilised, would be subsidised. 'The social concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne, and an enjoyable evening finished at 10.30.
