MAIN HIGHWAYS.
BOARD CANNOT GRANT EXTENSIONS 'SUGGESTED. Wellington, ‘June 28. Under the Main Highways Act the Board is required to make an annual review of Highways and some months ago District Highways Councils were requested to arrange fofr the usual review and consider any" 4 eases whereby the alteration of circumstances the route of any Main Highway should he changed or adjustments should be made to meet any altered conditions. A number*'of such oases were considefred by the District Highways Councils and in addition the District Highways Councils recomlmended over 2000 miles of ad - ditional roads (for declaration as Main Highways. The main Board reports that it- is not in a. position to declare additional mileage such as this which is equivalent to about 60 polr cent of the total secondary highways declared by the Board in 1928.
