TORNADO AND ELECTRIC STORM.

CAUSES DAMAGE IN TARANAKI. New Plymouth, Last Night. A startling tornado occurred in the Onaero district, north of Waitara, during a Isevere electrical storm this afternoon. 'Sweeping' Up firom the sea in a zig-zag 'Course, it wrought havoc on a number of farms, razing belts of trees and da|ma!ging barns and other buildings. The fury of the tornado was shown in a gully, the sides of which were clothed with •heavy native bush. Heire, timber was uprooted en masse, the roots of the trees lifting the earth with them, so that the hillsides afterwards presented the appearance of having been subject to a big landslide. The storm raged furiously for some tiiimle, hailstones of extraordinary size pelting- down.
