RANGIOTU SCHOOL GROUNDS.

IMPROVED BY MAIN HIGHWAYS SCHEME. The chairman (Mr. Collins) and architect (Mr. Hodge) of the Wanganui Education 'Board, together with the engineer to the ManaAvatu County Council (Mr. Bond) met at the Rangiotu school ground yesterday afternoon and made an inspection of the levelling and removal of spoil Avhieh has taken place in connection Avith the hiigli- \< av improvement scheme in the locality. The highway AVoUk necessitated the removal of a sandhill, portion of Avhieh was on the school site. 'The school committee sanctioned the work without notifying the Board and the matter was reported to the Board by its architect Avith the result that an inspection and conference Avas decided upon. In conversation with the County chairman (Mr. W. E. Barber) Ave were informed that the removal of the sand hill, most of which was on the higliAvay, effects a marked improvement to the school ground, and at no expense to the Board, as the Council A\ T ill re-erect the fence' and a shelter shed and top-dress the levelling. Mr. Barber also pointed out that the road improvement now effected will enable the children to attend school in flood time which would have been impossible undeir the old conditions. He further stated that it Avas the desire of the Council at all times to cooperate with the Board in providing improved facilities and in this connection had asssted the Board and committees in several localities. He stated that apparently the Rang’iotu committee had omitted to confer Avith the Board but the improvements to the Rangiotu school grounds effected by the Council should meet with the approval and appreciation of the Board.
