SHANNON BRIDGE.

NO OFFICIAL OPENING.

At Monday’s meeting of the Mali a watu County Council notice was received from the Shannon Borough Council 'to the effect that it had been informed that the county council was assuming control of ‘ the new bridge over the Manawatu River at Shannon, and asking what steps had (been taken to have an official opening of the bridge. In regard to the latter part, the Foxton Borough Council wrote stating that the Shannon Borough Council had asked it to support a request to the county council that arrangements be made for an official opening of the bridge. “I don’t think we want any official opening,” said Cr. Perrett. The .chairman (Cr. Barber) stated that the Horowhenua County Council had turned down a similar request. He did not think that any opening was required. T'he bridge had been open for traffic for the last six months and a function was not necessary. It was decided to inform the Shannon Borough Council to this effect.
