ATTEMPT TO EXTORT MONEY BY THREATS.
Auckland, Last Night. Claude Edgar Young appeared for sentence in the Police Court to-day on a charge of attempted theft, following upon his conviction yesterday, when the police told the story of how lie had endeavoured to extort money by writing letters under a false name, threatening ito 'expose the doings of his former employer. The Magistrate, Mi*. Hunt, said the case was out of the ordinary. He had a report from the probation officer, who thought accused just wanted putting under restraint. It was no use fining hiiin, as he could no't pay anything. Accused was admitted to probation for 12 months.
