OTAKI HOSPITAL.

TRANSFERRED TO PALMERSTON HOSPITAL BOARD. A PLEASING CEREMONY. Despite the very -inclement weather yesterday afternoon there was a representative gathering at the Otakd Hospital when the formal ceremony of handing over the institution from the Health Department to the Palmerston Hospital Board took place. Mr. J. K. Hornblow (chairman of the Hospital Board) presided and extended a welcome to the Hon. A. J. Stallworthy (Minister of Health), officers of the Health Department, Hon. C. M. Luke (chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board), Mr. Atniore (Mayor of Otaki) and other local body representatives. Apologies were received from the Hon. Ngata, Messrs W. H. Field, J. A. Nash, ,J. LinM’ater M.P’s., Monk, Freeiman, ex-'Maitron Seeley and ethers. Before the ceremony commenced those present stood for a few moments in silence as a mark of Irespect to the memory of the late Sir James Wilson (late chairman of the Board) and as a mark of sympathy to Mr. Monk in his recent bereavement. The chairman outlined the history of the hospital since the HoroWhenua. County was merged into the Palmerston North Hospital district, and the subsequent negotiations with the Health Department and Wellington Hospital Board re tUe transfer and improvements to the institution and the Board’s policy in connection with its future administration. Mr. Atmore (Mayor of Otaki) extended a civic welcome to the visitors and expressed pleasure at the re-opening of the institution. Hon. |C. M. Luke gave an interesting outline of the Otaki Hospital from its foundation. The Minister expressed pleasure at the haippy consummation of the negotiations and wished the institution every success. • The usual courtesies were exchanged and those present were entertained at afternoon tea.
