PERSONAL
Canon William Fancourt, of Palmerston North, h'as been appointed vicar of Saint Mary’s Cathedral parish, Auckland, in succession to Canon Pereival Janies, who recently resigned to go to Wellington. ' The twenty-third anniversary of Rl. Hon. R. J. Seddon’s death was commemorated yesterday by the placing of wreaths at the base of his monument, including two deposited by Sir Joseph Ward, one a personal tribute and the other on behalf oif Cabinet, Parliaiment and friends. Silt- Joseph Ward delivered a brief eulogistic, spee-cli to the gathering. Mr. H. E. Holland, leader of the Labour Party, also spoke referring to Mr. Seddon as one of New Zealand’s greatest sons. General regret will be felt throughout the district (says the Levin Chronicle) at the sad news of the death, which occurred early on Sunday morning, of one of the children of the County chairman, Mr. G. Alex. Monk, and Mrs. Monk, at their home at Reikerangi. This was their little son, John Bryan, who was not quite four years of age. He had been rather seriously ill last week, but his end was unexpected and came as a painful shock to the parents and family, for whom much sympathy is felt.
