RUGBY FOOTBALL
The Wellington Tramway's football team visited Foxton yesterday and played a friendly match against the local seniors on Easton Park before a good clrowd of spectators. The Foxton team giving a very bright, display, inflicted deltal! oil the visitors to the tune of 3ti to 1-t. The local players are now in good form, and yesterday some of the combined efforts, particularly among the backs were up to the best standard. The visitors have soime prominent individual I layers lyit they were unable to produce the combined play which -cores the points. At the conclusion of the game the local Club enter! ninod the visitors to dinner when llio usual toasts were honoured.
SEVEN-A-'SIDE. A junior and a third seven-a-side team represented the Foxton Club at the Palmerston North annual tournament yesterday. The juniors won their first match v. Iviwitea, but were eliminated in the third round by High School. The thirds who played good football de- / fen ted Kin Ton in the first round and Tolkomairu in the seend but were eliminated on a protest lodged by Tokomnru. Kin Ton won the Senior Cup. Kin Ton A won the Junior Cup, and Oriental (Wellington) won the Third Cup. N.Z. REPRESENTATIVES FOR AUSTRALIAN TOUR. The six Rugby selectors met after the trial match at Wellington yesterday and c-hoso the following players to 'make the lour of Australia Ibis month: — Full back: G. Stringfellow (Wairarapa); five-eighths: (H. Lilburne (Canterbury), R. Gundy (Wairarapa), C. Oliver (Canterbury), L. Hook (Auckland); half back: W. C. Dailey (Canterhulry); wing-for-ward: C. Or. Porter; hookers: B. Palmer (Auckland), A. Cottereil (Canterbury), R. Souter (Otago), K. Reid ( Waiirarapa); locks: E. R. Steerc (Hawke’s Bay), C. Sonntag (Otago); forwards: R. 0. McWilliams (Aulekland), A. Kivell (Taranaiki), D, Rika (North Auckland), W. Reside (Wairaraipa), A. Mahoney (Bush District), E. M. Snow (Nelson). One half back has still to ho selected to bring the playing strength up to 25 players.
Taranaki defeated Wanganui at Wanganui yesterday by 22 points to 17. In the 13. grade rep. match Taranaki defeated Wanganui by IS to 11. At Christchurch yesterday Wellington defeated Canterbury by 23 points to IG.
