CHARGES OF FIGHTING AND SWEARING. A report was received from Air. Coyle, arising from the FoxtonToko'inairu thirds match, that ho had had to stand on the line McCarthy, of Foxton, and Matthews, of Tokomaru, for fighting and bad language. Matthews appeared to him to he the aggressor, and he had had to warn him earlier in the match.

Mr. Robinson said that McCarthy vas not able to attend the imeeting, but had asked him to explain that i lie pair had had “a hit of a. dustup." Mi'Carthy stated that when be was down on the ground one of the Tokoina/ru men was mauling him about, and McCarthy struck at him nnd hit the ball, at which the others started-to laugh, and the-two were then ordered off the field of play. Mr. Heyes: He .says it was not a tight, but a scuffle to get possession of the ball. I should say they both should he punished.

The chairman said, that although Matthews was unable to he present, the duty of the committee was to stand both lads down until they appeared 'before the committee. On the motion of (Mr. Heyes, it v, as resolved that the ease be held over until the players concerned appear before the committee, and that, in the meantime thgy be suspended. LATE STARTS. The chairman said that the meeting would be fair to Foxton. He thought that, in the event of a challenge coining from Rangilikei for the Bebbington Shield, it would be played at Foxton. Mr. Procter moved and Mr. McGill seconded, that Foxton be allotted the Rangitilkei game. Mr. Robinson: I think that, in view of the Hvay that Foxton are working, they deserve a rep. match, even if Levin only gets ' one rep. match. If Otaki and Shannon get a match, Foxton should have one too. He moved, as an amendment, that the Bush or the Rangitikei match, according to which challenge is received first, be played at Foxton.

The amendment was seconded by Mr. Heyes, and was carried by seven votes to five. With regard to the match between Foxton and the Wellington Train ways tealm, to be played at Foxton on King’s Birthday, Mr. Heyes mentioned that the Tramways team had (been in the habit of playing Carterton on a fifty-fifty basis with respect to (he takings; he did not know whether 50 per cent, went to the home elulb or the' Union. The Chairman said lie believed that there was a minute authorising this Council to take the .50 per cent, in the ease of such games, but he did not think it had ever been enforced. Mr. Richards: We should assist our clubs all we can in the way of finance. They generally run out before the season is finished. Mir. Robinson said he had previously moved that the game be played on a fifty-fifty basis with the Council, but he had been under the impression that the tramwaymen did not expect half the gate. He had since heard that they were ii: need of funds. Mr. McGill: It is for funds for their band to take part in the contest in Auckland. Air. Robinson put in a strong plea for consideration of the Foxton Club,' which had worked hard hut was still'short, of finance. He thought that if there was a toye in the Cup fixtures at any time, the Council should let the Foxton Club have the benefit of it. The meeting agreed that the Council should abstain from enforcing its claim for 50 per cent, of the gate takings, in the case of (he Foxton v. Tramways match. Owing to Otaki races, being held next Saturday, there will be no matches in the Horowhenua area.
