NEW ZEALAND FLAXMILLERS’ ASSOCIATION.

GENERAL MEETING. A general meeting- of the New Zealand Flaadmillers’ Association was held in the Racing Chib’s office on Saturday afternoon, presided over by Mr. C .11. Speirs (President). Also present were Messrs A. E. Sutton, W. Ross, D. R. Ogilvy, 11. Berry, F. Wilson, W. Nye jnr., G. Rough, and A. Fraser. Apologies for absence wege received from Messrs A. Seifert, H. A. Seifert and W. Speirs.. A motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Mr. Liggins. The chairman gave an interesting resume of the conference held at Mr. Lowden’s office, Palmerston N., on 2nd February relative to cutting on the “A” shape. It was intimated that Mr. Lowden Intended calling a further conference at an early date.

A letter was read from the Consul for Portugal enquiring if arrangements could be made for the son of a Portuguese ilax grower in the |Azores to obtain a thorough experience in the Dominion’s flax industry, covering milling, etc. After considerable discussion it .was decided to reply that this Association could not assist, hut suggest that the Consul endeavour to make a private arrangement with a miller. Letters were received from the Secretary Northern Flaxmillers’ Association, enclosing copies of letters sent to Prime Minister on the question of unemployment relief and Power Board charges. A letter re unemployment relief was also received, the Chairman moving that this Association strongly support the Northern Association letter re Power charges and that the matter be left in hands

of Messrs B. B. Wood and D. R. Ogilvy. A letter was read from Dr. Marsden, Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, ■in regard to representatives on the Committee. Mr. Wilson moved the present representatives continue to sit until the annual meeting of the Association when all officers are appointed. The Chairman stated that Mr. Ogilvy had resigned the position of secretary. Mr. G. Fraser was appointed to the vacancy. The Chairman moved a vote of thanks to Mr. Ogilvy, the retiring secretary.
