THE HEMP MARKET
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. The (Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated 11th instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Hemp.—-Manila market eases under heavy production figures and freer -offerings. “J” grade for April-June shipment sold £36. Merkel steadier at the close and May-Ju-ly shiplment quoted £37. Output Ist January to 30th April 588,000 bales against 454,000 bales for some period last year. Stocks in Manila on 30th April 194,000 bales against 130,000 bales; in England 8.535 bales against 16,525. Sisal market steadier and firmer with buyers of No. 1 for JuneAugnst shipment at £37 to £37 10s; No. 2, £35 10s to £36; but very little trade support. New Zealand market continues dulfemd neglected. No sales reported in any position. Nominal coinpara live values for April-June shipment unchanged except, for No. 1. Tow at £l7 10s.
