DRUNK IN CHARGE OF MOTORCAR.
FINE OF £.lO IMPOSED. At the local Police Court yesterday morning before Mr. J. K. Hornblow, J.P., A. V. Madden, of Shannon, was charged by the polieo with being drunk while in charge of a motor-car on Saturday. The accused, who had been bailed out on Saturday night, did not appear. W. Neville, traffic inspector, gave evidence to the effect that at about 4.30 on Saturday afternoon he saw the accused driving bis car backward instead of forward near the Post Offline Hotel and he pulled out from the kerb without signalling. He followed 'the car to the Manav.a'tu Hotel where accused pulled up. Accused was not in a fit state to be in charge of the car. Constable Owen in evidence said that he arrested the accused for drunkenness as he was leaving the Manawatu Hotel. He then had two bottles of beer in his possession. lie took possession of the car and refused permission of accused to drive it when bailed out. Accused was convicted and fined £lO, in default one month’s imprisonment.
